James moved to Hilton Head in 1981 after vacationing on the island. He quickly joined Lighthouse Realty and started selling real estate on Hilton Head. After learning the Hilton Head real estate market for 4 years, he left Lighthouse Realty and teamed with Charlie Reed to start Charter I Realty & Marketing.

James' business philosophy is simple. He believes that by dedicating himself to the highest level of service, that the business will follow. This has proven true over the years as most of James' business has come from existing clients and referrals from existing clients.

James has been actively involved in the community throughout his years on the island. He has been the 10th Precinct Chairman for the Republican Party, coach of Dixie Youth baseball, middle school girls and boys basketball at Hilton Head Christian Academy, an Outreach Director, and a Deacon and Sunday School teacher for the First Baptist Church.

• James has been married to his wife, Jane, for 28 years. They have 4 children: Brandi Jane, Marsha, Chip, & David. James has been blessed with another family member, Drew, as his daughter Marsha has been recently married.
